Google has recently announced that it has developed a Chrome Operating System to be used on netbooks.

Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system. Google plans to open-source its code later this year , so that netbooks running under the Google Chrome OS new operating system will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010.

Google is now talking to several manufacturers of netbooks so that the Chrome OS can be on the market by middle of next year. Google Chrome OS will be based on a Linux kernel. It will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips.  Google Chrome OS is an entirely separate project from Google Android.
