Today President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo stated her 9th and Final State of the Nation Address (SONA) .
The president outlined her accomplishments. And attacked her critics. She was fearless in her speech and got more than 100 applauses from the audience during the whole SONA.
There were many who protested and accused her but she continued to deliver her message to the people this 27th day of July 2009. Many awaited the announcement of whether the President would still running again or will she step down from her position in 2010.
From PNP spokesman Senior Supt. Leonardo A. Espina : “We have covered all fronts” as they have secured the Batasan Complex Area and allowed Maximum Tolerance for those who have protested in different areas in Manila.
From Senator Mar Roxas : The president diverted from the issue of high priced medicine. She has heard the cries the poor on high priced medicines but still listened to the lobbying of the manufacturers and distributors of medicine in this country. “Kayang-kaya na mapababa ang presyo ng gamot sa kalahati, pero hindi niya ginawa. Kawawa talaga ang ating mga kababayan.”
He also reacted on PGMA’s side comment ” To those who wants to be President . . . do not say bad words in public”. Mar said – “Ok lang yun. Sigurado namang minumura na sya ng sambayanamg pilipino dahil sa mga ginagawa nya.”
From Randy David : This president is playing with words when she stated ” I have never expressed any desire to extend myself beyond my term.” Mr. David believes that the president does not want to say directly her future plans on 2010. There is only one way she can stick to her post , that is if she disregards democracy and grabs on to her power. “Nanganganib pa rin ang ating Democrasya . . .” Randy said.
From Senator Chiz Escudero : What she stated in her SONA are the incomplete situation of our country. She did not say the whole picture. Also , the president did not directly state that she will not run for re-election in 2010. We still have to be vigilant on this.
From Senator Loren Legarda : The President’s speech was incomplete. Also, she did not state categorically that she will not pursue to stay president beyond 2010.
From Chairman Winnie Monsod : She stated inaccuracies when she stated that the number of poor Filipinos decreased and the number of Jobs increased. The true statistics revealed the opposite of hwta she said.
From Mikee Arroyo : They think the President missed out on somethings , but she really cannot say everything within an hour of speech. If they think they are better in speech , in English , we can not do anything about that.
