Air Canada, an airline based in Vancouver, British Columbia , started its move to gain new sources of revenue by implementing the forced charging of fees on 2nd checked bag carried by passengers on economy-class tickets.

Management reasoned that the move was not a new idea but was just an already growing trend in the airline industry due to the growing economic slowdown.

According to Air Canada Exec. Vice-President , airlines from US and European competitors have already been implementing the said policy for some time, and this is just a measure to sustain profitability.

Only those passengers flying to US , Europe and Israel will have to pay to additional charge.
– C$30 ($28.50) flights to the United States
– C$50 for flights going to Europe and Israel

Those economy-class passengers that are flying within Canada, or on flights to Mexico, the Caribbean, South and Central America, Asia and Australia, are not included in the new policy. They can still check two bags without an extra charge.
