With almost half a million average daily passengers, the LRT 1 or Manila Light Rail Transit Line 1 has probably been the fastest above-ground transportation used daily by commuters and spans the long route along Taft and Rizal Avenue.

The LRT 1 or Yellow Line offers to the public a total of 19 service train stations within Metro Manila. The whole LRT 1 spans four (4) cities in Metro Manila which are Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila and Pasay.

LRT 1 Operating Schedule :

During Weekdays (Monday to Friday) – The LRT 1 train service operation begins at 5:00 am and ends at 11:00 pm. Within this period of time, the LRT has plenty of trains that arrive at each station at 3-minute intervals. The last train leaves Baclaran at 9:30 pm, while last train from Monumento leaves at 10:00 pm.

At Weekends (saturday and Sunday) – The LRT 1 train service operation begins at 5:00 am and ends at 10:30 pm only. Last train from Baclaran leaves at 9:00 pm, while last train leaves Monumento at 9:30 pm.

LRT 1 Fares Pricing and Tickets (One-Way/Single Journey & Stored Value) :

The LRT 1 ticket fare price ranges from Php 12 to Php 20. Actual pricing depends on how far you are from your destination. When you pay for your ride you are given Magnetic Card Tickets that has the actual peso value you paid for. The LRT1 uses a distance-based fare system – which means you pay for the actual distance you travel. There are two types of magnetic card tickets: Single Journey and Stored Value.

– The Single Journey (One-Way) Ticket can only be used for a one-time ride only.

– The SVT or Stored Value Ticket (Mulitple-Use) can hold P60 and P100 value, The peso value stored can last you for a week. One good thing when using this, is that you get the last ride almost for free because of the “Last Ride Bonus” scheme. Senior citizens and disabled passengers can get a special SVT at discounted price (they can avail a P96 stored value ticket).

Here are the rules for ticket fare per station :

Single Journey Tickets:

– From any station up to 4 stations – pay 12 pesos
– From any station up to the 5th station onwards – pay 15 pesos
( But have to pay 20 pesos when you get down in Balintawak )

Ex. Baclaran to Vito Cruz – P12
Baclaran to Quirino – P15
Baclaran to Balintawak – P20

– From Balintawak up to station within Monumento and Bambang – Php 15
– From Balintawak up to stations within Doroteo Jose and Baclaran – Php 20

Stored Value Tickets:

– From any station up to 4 stations – 12 pesos
– From any station up to the 5th station – 13 pesos
– From any station up to the 9th & 12th station – 14 pesos
– From any station up to the 13th & 16th station – 15 pesos
( Pay 20 pesos when you get down in Balintawak )

Safety Precautions & Guidelines when Riding the LRT 1 :

1. There is a separate train coach for women, disabled and senior citizens (usually the located on the 1st part) to prevent any form of sexual or physical harassment.

2. For security of all, some things are not permitted to be brought inside the platform or the train.

– large luggages, inflated balloons, any open bottles or cans,
– quantity of fluids such as chemicals, gasolines and pesticides
– pointed objects

3. Anybody under the influence of alcohol or restricted drugs or insane are not allowed to ride the LRT 1. These individuals may cause some harm to the innocent passengers.

4. You are responsible for all your belongings, specially valuables such as wallets and jewelry. Do not leave them unattended.
